What to Expect
This guide will provide instruction on how to slowly advance your diet after surgery. The dietary recommendations after gastric bypass surgery will help in weight loss, will reduce negative side effects, and provide adequate nutrition.
After the surgery some people experience no discomfort in eating, while others may have problems for weeks or months. It is normal to have difficulty tolerating certain foods, which typically can be pinpointed and avoided until a further date. Since you will be eating small quantities of food at a time, it is important to choose nutritious foods. This means getting the right amount of protein, vitamins and minerals, even though certain foods may not be tolerated.
You will be making significant lifestyle changes after your surgery. It is important to have a support system in place such as Support Group Meetings, family, friends and an online chat group. You will also be in regular contact with your health care team.
The following will be your general follow-up appointment schedule. Modifications will be made as needed, depending on how you are feeling or as deemed necessary by your health care team.
